This Almost Ruined My Year
…until I read that they are only recommending deletion of the illustrious, useful, and FANTASTIC Oxford comma for internal Oxford University publications and releases. They still recommend it for public use. First of all, huge sigh of relief that I don’t have to start amending my sentences and word order to be more confusing. Second of all, Oxford University’s loss. Third of all, I have no idea why this issue of whether or not to use the Oxford, or serial, comma, is such a hot-button topic with me. I get irrationally upset that it might get snatched from my claws (obviously my hands turn into claws when I am angered by the grammar aristocracy). For now, it’s still mine! Muahaha. HELPFUL, LEGITIMATE COMMAS EVERYWHERE!

But journalistically (according to AP style), you’re not supposed to use the serial comma. I got out of the habit because of that, but it was really hard to let go…
